Stanford Baseball Camp Director
DEAN STOTZ has been the Director of the Stanford Summer Baseball Camps for 41 years! The Stanford Summer Baseball Camps are recognized nationwide as being the finest in the country! In October of 2013 Stotz announced his retirement from coaching, but remained in his role as the Director of the Stanford Baseball Camps. In Stotz's 37 years at Stanford (11 years as Associate Head Coach) he has gained national recognition as one of the top recruiters and talent evaluators in the country. He was named the first recipient of the ABCA/Baseball America Assistant Coach of the Year Award and was selected as the top recruiter in the nation by his coaching peers.
During Stotz's tenure at Stanford he orchestrated the recruitment and development of 174 professional draft picks, including 25 first round selections in his last 26 years of coaching. One of the more amazing facts is that of those 174 draft picks, 91 of them were not drafted out of high school. Under his tenure, Stanford had eight players sign for bonuses of 2 million dollars or more (Mark Appel 6.35 million, Joe Borchard, 5.3 million; Jeremy Guthrie, 4 million; Greg Reynolds, 3.25 million; Justin Wayne, 2.95 million; Jason Young 2.75 million;Jason Castro, 2.1 million; and Mike Gosling 2 million). During Stotz's 37-year stint at Stanford, the Stanford Baseball Program produced an amazing 36 winning seasons! In the last fifteen years of his coaching career, players out of Stanford University have signed for professional baseball bonuses totaling over 53 million dollars, including an astounding 8.6 million dollars in the 2013 draft class.
